Gamification in corporate training

Gamification in eLearning and corporate training has been gaining in popularity. Using it in your training program would make the learning experience more enjoyable and yield effective results. Adding games enables the program to be more engaging, exciting, and fun.

Gamification training includes gaming elements and components in it. Gamified learning makes the employees learn through self-driven interactive training methods. This creates a meaningful, rewarding, and risk-free learning environment.

How does gamification make the training effective?

1. Quicker learning

With gamification, the learning process becomes more engaging and fun for the employees. It makes the learning process less hectic. It helps in the retention of knowledge more accurately than in traditional learning. Gamified learning would encourage more engagement in the workspace.

2. Fosters action in the workplace

A passive method of attending meetings and trainings does not yield equal participation and interest among all. To avoid this, gamification comes of immense help and value. It makes every one act and build a productive environment in the workspace or the training program.

3. Enhances social connectivity

Gamification have elements of team work which enables members to participate equally towards the project. Gamification training would also enable the employees to learn important aspects of their work by connecting with the team members and learning as a team.

4. Instant feedback

In traditional trainings, usually feedback is provided at the end of the entire course. With gamification, teams receive their feedback and score there and then. Moreover, this allows the team members to make adjustments and improvements along the way.

5. Connects to company culture

Nothing could be more promising to the employees than a good engaging atmosphere of workspace. If the company provides enough resources to make the employees feel valued, it gains more appreciation from the employee’s side and creates a good company culture.

What are the dos and don’ts while using gamification in corporate training?

Things to be avoided:

  1. Losing primary training objective: Using gamifications in training would be a plus point but only when it sticks to the training objective. Therefore, if the gamifying goes beyond the purpose of the project, it would fail to yield the training results.
  2. Complicated challenges: Game mechanics can improve employee engagement, but they should not be too difficult to crack. Too much of the same could also lead to frustration. The difficulty level should not be too high to make it stressful. It is recommendable that you create gamified mechanics in your training that provide a sense of satisfaction to the learners.
  3. Implementing wrong tools: It is important to create gamifying tools which suits the employees and values of your organization. Moreover, methods of gamification should not be used just for the sake of using it.

Things you should implement:

  1. Aligning with the learning objective: It is always suggested that you first establish the goals of the training. This also includes areas that require problem-solving and fixing. Accordingly, the game mechanics required to fulfill this could be selected and put forward.
  2. Personalisation: Giving learners a tailored training experience would boost their performance positively. It would make them feel more attached to their task. Using gamified tools such as storylines and level pathways would make the training more personalized.
  3. Micro-learning: Break extensive and lengthy courses into smaller bits and chunks. Therefore, providing micro-content to your learners and employees would reinforce the learning in a more efficient way.
  4. Encourage social learning: Motivating employees to engage as a team rather than as individuals is essential. Using game-based elements like clubs and battles, learners can collaborate, compete, and communicate with each other.
