Online vs traditional employee training

Traditional training involves in-person interactions between trainees and instructors. On the other hand, online training is Web-based training where interactions, learning, and development happen online. You can share the modules and learning content online through an employee training system.

Online learning enables learning and training courses to run at a flexible pace. Through an online platform, you can learn, work, and collaborate remotely from around the world.

Although a sudden shift from traditional to online learning and corporate training could be challenging. Several key features need to be in focus while making this shift. It is equally important to recognise the common mistakes and avoid them to make the eLearning process reliable.

What mistakes should you avoid when switching from traditional to online training/learning

1. Choosing wrong eLearning tools

It is important to always choose the right eLearning tool and learning management system. Choose the LMS with all the basic features required for your training. If this goes wrong, then again, you have to spend a lot of time and resources in search of a new one. Reading and researching online user reviews of eLearning tools would be helpful.

2. Avoiding updating content

Keep assessing and reframing your training materials. Re-use and evaluate your training and learning content. For instance, an outdated PowerPoint presentation would not yield effective results. Instead, using an advanced eLearning tool could be more appealing and effective. You should always update and change your content for better understanding and relevancy.

3. Neglecting analysis of training needs

It is of utmost importance to identify and analyse the drawbacks occurring in your traditional training. What do the employees lack in terms of skills or knowledge? And how would an online learning system improve productivity? You should address queries like these and solve. So, it is important to determine how an online training tool can fit your learning and development needs.

4. Not getting the right people on board

Having team of experts on board is crucial.  They should handle data migration, content revaluating and monitoring reports. You should equip the onboard professions with eLearning project management tools to keep the work on track.

5. Neglecting the importance of employee feedback

Employees should be an integral part be it in traditional or online learning. Their feedback is very essential to have an idea regarding the status of online training and learning.  It would help develop much improved online training content.

6. Overloading employees with too much information

Micro- learning is the key to this. Break extensive and lengthy courses into smaller bits and chunks. Providing micro-content to your learners and employees would reinforce the learning in an efficient way.

Sometimes several projects in hand requires much time and effort over it. You can divide your training in different sections and you should also consider distributing tasks equally among peers. This would make the bigger task appear to be less hectic.

7. Implementing single training strategy and tools

Different departments in your firm might need different mode and conduct of learning tools. Your online training should be able to accommodate all the responsibility and requirement of every team. For this you should custom tailor you training content based on the team and their current task.

Choosing an effective mode of training

Both traditional and online training have their own challenges. However, the online platform provides immense possibilities and courses to enhance learning and development in training. The organization has to have a well-planned method of conducting the training program either way. Factors such as cost, resources, target learners, learning objectives, etc., need to be well established and analysed.

To create an effective training program and add value to your learners’ lives, it is important that you rectify. You must learn from your mistakes, see your strong points, and make an effective strategy.
