Do you think a good academic background suffices for successful career growth? Well, we know that it is not. Every professional has to groom them with skill sets to progress. But how do we analyze what are the skill sets that need to be focused on?

Over some time, the skills that have gained importance are mostly technical and the non-technical skills have taken a back seat. This has led to imbalanced skill growth. The irrational categorization has significantly affected working professionals.

Even at present times when we talk about upskilling the workforce, the focus remains on technical skills. This should be changed and a balance should be brought between hard and soft skills for overall development

Hard skills are the specific technical skill that eases core working. Soft skills on the other hand nurture behavior, communication, personality, which makes the employee more presentable.

Let us look at some of these soft skills and also know, how they help individuals and businesses:

Teamwork

This is one of the most important and is mandatory for any organization to work smoothly. It is always teamwork that derives growth efforts. A good team culture binds employees together. If this skill is embedded in every employee then they would not hesitate even to go out of the way to help other members. It creates a positive environment and enriches the working culture.

Critical thinking

An organization doesn’t need someone who says yes for a yes. Professionals are hired for their expertise. Critical thinking in an employee encourages them to come up with innovative ideas for the business. It lets them brainstorm and brings out the best in them.

Active listening

To implement any given task, active listening is a must. Unless there is clarity in work the expectations can’t be met. There should not be multiple discussions to get the same thing done, it’s futile. An employee should be in a position to execute the task after the briefing. This can be possible if they practice active listening.

Negotiation skills

This skill helps in marketing and sales. A sharp negotiating skill would help the employees lock more deals. It plays an important role in customer support, sales, and marketing. Thus these teams should be trained with this skill.

Leadership

Leadership qualities are very much needed to run the organization. There are hierarchies in any organization. But these hierarchies should not affect the working culture. There are team leads, managers, senior managers, etc. within a company. These people should lead the team, instead move along with the team towards achieving goals and targets.

Ethics and Integrity

A business is not insured if its employees are not ethical. There can be checks and balances but these ethics and integrity should come from within. It is not something that has to be forced. It can be inculcated with compliance training

Problem-solving approach

The workforce should not be confined to the specified tasks. Watertight compartments and rigidity restrict employees to think out of the box and bring innovative solutions. This problem-solving skill in the employees lets them deal with every issue proactively.

These soft skills are equally important as technical skills. This brings positive results and helps businesses grow. LMS(Learning Management System) helps inculcate both technical and non-technical skills. It is thus preferred by most of the corporates. LMS certainly assures success to every business.
